NEWSLETTER 5 - November 2020

CURRENT INITIATIVE

In our attempt to constantly remain fresh in our approach we recently publicised the following:
“The recent publicity afforded the amazing composer, Paul Harvey, who is living with dementia has once again reminded us all of the benefits of music. Dementia Sings Out is a Northamptonshire-based charity, started in August 2019, which runs FREE weekly singing sessions for people living Dementia. Although we used to meet each Thursday in person, pre Covid, we have resolutely refused to bow to the pressures of the pandemic restrictions and close down this thriving and much-needed community service. We have adapted our activities to Zoom Thursday morning sessions which are conducted by Musical Director Gareth Fuller on-line from his Wellingborough studio assisted by the trustees and supporters. We have also produced new lyric booklets and we personally distribute them to individuals and Care Homes across the county. For those struggling with the challenges of technology we can also provide invaluable assistance with on-line access. Consequently, Dementia Sings Out continues, against all of the
odds, with the help of selfless carers, to highlight and promote the invaluable contribution to mental wellbeing which music and singing provide to so many people and their carers across the community.”

OUR MOST RECENT THURSDAY SESSION

At our most recent weekly session we were overwhelmed at the fruits of our latest publicity efforts which have included renewed personal approaches with existing Care Home contacts, as well as others with whom we have not worked to date. It is significant, and perhaps a sign of the times, that we have received a significant number of approaches from those in the community who may not themselves be living with dementia but who quite simply value the human interaction and singing of our sessions.

OUR SISTER CHOIR

We enjoy the closest of links with another inspirational choir, Wellingborough Community Gospel Choir (WCGC) which is also led by Gareth Fuller. Like us, WCGC has been resolute in battling on despite the lockdown restrictions. Many DSO volunteers are also members of the WCGC. Use the link below to access their exciting virtual concert initiative which is broadcast at 7.30 p.m. on Friday 18th December. Tickets are £7 per household.
